In the search for skin anti-ageing strategies, there's always the next big thing and the latest and greatest antioxidant. One week it’s green tea, the next it's cocoa and by the end of the month it's pomegranate juice.

I'd like to believe that there really is one miracle ingredient out there that removes wrinkles, smooths skin and evens skin tone in one fell swoop (or wipe, rather), but deep down, I think I know the truth of the matter: there's no one holy grail of skincare. Yes, there are some wonderful products and natural remedies out there (fresh orange juice and dandelion tea being two of my favourites), however I have to admit that, as far as I can tell, the secret to beautiful skin is a multifaceted approach. Naturopath Siobhan Jordan agrees, and here’s what she had to say on the matter:

"For me, the lesson here is that skin health and any aspect of our health really is never that simple. It's not even just about nutrition in a general sense (e.g. eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, drinking adequate water, making sure you get enough protein). Like everything in health and life, a good rule is taking a balanced approach."

"With the skin for example, I find that if my skin looks tired and stressed not only do I need to look at my diet, I need to look at relaxation too. I've lost count of the number of times that I’ve noticed a furrowing between my brows that responds best to a good night’s sleep and relaxation techniques like meditation or a long bath. If I keep a focus on relaxation too, my skin always improves, looking clearer and calmer. I even notice a difference between using a face mask and doing other tasks while it's on compared to putting the face mask and simply being still. The result is always better for relaxation."
